BHAGAVATI BAGLAMUKHI

A brief introduction

(The following introduction has been translated from the book ‘Baglamukhi-ek durlabha sadhana paddhati” by Swami Divya Chetnananda.)

Bhagavati Baglamukhi is a pure, sattvic (filled with goodness) form of Mahavidya, representing one of the ten Principle Female Energies of Tantra, who manifested   as a result of worship and austerities performed by Lord Vishnu. She appears as an extremely fierce energy who can annihilate all sorts of enemies that are present in the life of her devotees.

She is known as ‘Peetambara’, meaning one who adorns yellow garments, similar to Lord Vishnu who also adorns yellow garments. The greatest Sadhaka (Practitioner) of Ma Baglamukhi is Lord Vishnu and her most beloved devotee is the great Sage Devarishi Narada, who is the seer of many important mantras of Bagalamukhi and He has also written many ‘stotras’, songs of praises, that describe the Glories of Divine Mother.

An important question to ponder upon is that, Lord Vishnu who is the presiding deity of ‘satoguna’ meaning “ Lord of Goodness ”, whose devotees are known as vaishnavas, who refrain from all types of meat eating, intoxication, illicit sex, to the point of not even consuming onions, garlic, tea & coffee, and when the results  of the sattvic austerities performed by Lord Vishnu made Ma Baglamukhi to appear, then how can she even appear to people ,who are persons of demoniac nature, who are  ‘tamasic’ (in mode of ignorance) ,who are engrossed in meat-eating, intoxication , who perform animal-sacrifice, fish eating and indulge in illicit sex and other such abominable acts? Ma appeared to please Lord Vishnu and Sage Narada, who are very pure  & sublime, always situated in the mode of goodness.

 The essence of my teaching is that whenever people worship Divine Mother by offering and consuming meat, fish, intoxicants and engaging in sexual acts, in the name of sadhana (Tantric Practices) , then such a sadhana can never bring beneficial results and Perfection. Therefore whenever you decide to undertake the sadhana of Baglamukhi, you must do this in the mode of goodness. This will lead to the benefit of the entire mankind. Even the slightest inconsideration to this teaching, will lead to disastrous results. If ever, someone tries to sway you in the ‘Left Handed Path of Tantra’ known a ‘vama marga,’ you must cautiously stay away from it, and always remember these teachings, which will guide you in the right path.

Another thought to ponder upon is that, there is sequence of word that appears in the mantra of Ma Bagla which is chanted as “sarva dushtaa naam vaacham mukham padam stambhaya” which literally means, “paralyze the speech, mouth and feet of all enemies/(evil)”, and if you apply a little thought, you will notice that there is a word ‘sarva dushtaa naam’ which means ‘all evil’, and applying the thought further, do you think that those persons who do this sadhana, while still engaged in meat eating and intoxication, or who wish to harass others; are they evil or not?, and if they are ,then will not Ma Bagla be wrathful towards them?. Therefore one should be very thoughtful, and with pure mind and thoughts, make a resolution to do this sadhana for the fulfillment of tasks as approved by the religious scriptures known as ‘shastras’, and with strong determination he should approach the Guru and after   taking His blessing and permission, in proper prescribed manner, one should use the Tantra Shakti (power of Tantra) of Ma Bagla, to please Her and for the welfare of others only.

Ma Baglamukhi is the most Blissful Mother, She is clearly the Perfect Mother who not only annihilates all the enemies of her children, but also maintains, feeds and nourishes her children, with the milk that comes from her own blood. The proper attitude to approach Divine Mother, who is everyone’s mother, is only to get Her Motherly Love & Affection. Become childlike and imagine sitting in Her lap and enjoying the wonders of the entire universe! May Ma’s grace shower upon you; this is my blessing to all of you.
