Divine Tantrik Yogi & Kamakhya's Child

A Great Adept, Supreme Master, Siddha of his time Babaji was a devotee of Mother Kamakhya. Just as Ramakrishna is the child of Ma Kali, so is Shri Babaji known as child of Ma Kamakhya. Devotees all over India have been a witness to the glorious moments when they would see Babaji talking to Ma Kamakhya and performing unbelievable miracles. Babaji could bring dead people alive. Babaji could read minds. He was a trikaal-darshi, meaning He could see the past, present and future. He could materialize things from air. He could present himself in two places at the same time.  

Once he felt like becoming a king for a day and he prayed to Ma Kamakhya and he started to shower Indian currency – Rupees, like rain. Many poor people collected the money and became happy. This might be astonishing to the reader, seems like something from harry potter movies, but these are true incidents which took place in the 80-90’s era, witnessed by many in the area of Assam and other parts of India.

A life so divine and inconceivable by ordinary human mind, it is difficult to document within few limited words, the activities of this magnificent Personality, who displayed extraordinary powers and divinity in his lifetime. Yet, the author is attempting to write short biography for the sake of all devotees.Many thanks to Nitesh Dhawan for providing the pictures from his personal collection.

BIRTH AND MEETING HIS GURU:

Babaji was born on January 1^st 1889 to a spiritual family as a boon given to his parents by Ma Kali. Immediately, after his birth there was a robbery in his village. Therefore, the people thought that the child is inauspicious. Though later, the whole village got a good harvest almost nine times more than usual. This made the villagers feel better and the child was considered auspicious.

He grew up and joined school at the proper age, but he was totally disinterested in school. One day his teacher scolded him for lack of interest in school and this made the boy furious and he decided to leave everything in search of Real Knowledge. At the age of thirteen, he ran away from home and went to Assam.

Assam is the Land of Magic and a powerful tantrik place. Here, Divine Mother is worshiped in the form of a womb. Babaji happened to meet his Guru Harnanatha in this magical place. He requested his Guru to initiate him in the worship of Ma Kamakhya.

Harnanatha was greedy by nature, and with an intention to steal to  Babaji's belongings, he agreed to intiate Babaji. With a wicked plan in mind, he asked Babaji to first take a bath in a nearby well. It was about sunset time, they both headed towards the well. At the orders of his Guru, Babaji got inside the well.

The well was stinking with stale water and liquor thrown by passerby people.It was infested with bugs and poisonous plants. Babaji soon realized that he had been cheated and he shouted for help.

Harnanath, in the meantime, had run away from the spot with Babaji’s belongings. Babaji fervently started to praying to Divine Mother. He kept struggling for life and simultaneously praying for about 48 hours. At around midnight, Babaji felt that there is a rope dangling near his hand. The rope seemed to be like the tail of either a monkey or lion. Babaji immediately caught hold of it and jumped out of the well and heard a big roar. Immediately afterwards, he became unconscious.

When the sun came out, Babaji was brought to consciousness by another passerby Tantrik called Girinatha. Babaji then recounted the whole incident to Girinatha and they both decided to find out Harnanatha.

When Harnanatha saw these two people approaching his place, he started shouting “Ghost, Ghost”. Babaji calmed him and said that he was not a ghost and Divine Mother saved him. Babaji also asked Harnanatha to keep all the money he had stolen, and in return he must teach him the Sadhana of Ma Kamakhya. Harnanatha was ashamed and embarrassed, but heeded to Babaji’s insistence and taught him the Sadhana.

After receiving the instructions, Babaji decided to do the Sadhana in the premises of the powerful ancient Kamakhya Temple. 

SADHANA AT KAMAKHYA:

He wanted to do the Sadhana after midnight, so that it would go on uninterruptedly. To achieve this, Babaji would hide in the temple premises in the evening and after the priest would leave home ,locking the temple at around 7.00 p.m, Babaji would come out of his hiding place and go to the inner sanctorum of the temple and perform his Sadhana concluding at 7.00 a.m in the morning, when the temple is re-opened for morning worship. In this manner Babaji continued with his Sadhana for almost 3 years.

DARSHAN OF MA KAMAKHYA : 

Then, on July 7^th 1949, at around 2.00 a.m., Babaji was completely immersed in his Sadhana and in the darkness of the night, Babaji observed that the lamp which he had lighted for Ma was growing bigger and intense. He saw a young girl of age nine or ten emerged from the light. The girl was glowing with a brilliant divine light. She came near Babaji and sometime she would sit on his shoulder or sometime on his left side or right side and so on.

Babaji got perplexed and started to wonder whether it was all a dream. The girl then spoke with a sweet voice and whispered in Babaji’s ears “ What do you want? Why are you doing this Sadhana?” Babaji replied, “I do not want anything”. The Divine voice said, “From henceforth all your wishes will be fulfilled” .


The Girl then disappeared. Babaji felt something was on his head. He moved his hand over his head and found few ornaments, which included two bangles that were studded with gems, a gold necklace and a beautiful ring. The Divine Voice spoke again,” You can give the ornaments to anyone you like, but the ring will give you light in the night. You will not need lamps for light”. Babaji then realized that the girl was none other than Ma Kamakhya herself and the ornaments were a gift from Her.

Even after the incident, Babaji could not believe what he had seen and heard. Next day,He went back to the temple to continue with his Sadhana and followed the same routine. Again, the same incident happened. Babaji saw the light growing bigger and the same girl came out and started playing near him. The same events repeated on the following day too, Babaji saw the same girl and then, all his doubts vanished away.

Such a delightful experience of seeing Ma Kamakhya, face-to-face, again and again, happens only to few Divine Souls. Babaji was blessed with such a rare experience. One day in Samadhi, Ma Kamakhya ordered him to go back to social life and help the common people and uplift the society with spiritual knowledge of the Tantras.

THE CONCLUSION OF SADHANA:

On July 22nd 1949, Babaji performed the final rites of Kumari Pujan. In this rite, young girls below age 12 are worshipped as divine mother with all paraphernalia and a big feast is organized.


The news of this feast reached his Guru, Harnanatha. His guru came to the feast and seeing the ornaments given by Ma Kamakhya, he became greedy once again. He asked the ring to be given to him as “Guru Dakshina”, or the teacher’s fees.


Babaji tried to explain him that Ma Kamakhya had forbidden him to give the ring. But Harnanatha kept insisting, therefore, Babaji had to obey his Guru’s order. He gave the ring to him. Harnanatha felt happy at his gain. He took the ring with himself, but within 10 days the gold ring turned into a bronze ring and lost all its power. Harnanatha then realized his mistake and knew that Babaji was not an ordinary soul. He immediately rushed back to his disciple and begged forgiveness.

Babaji replied “ My dear Guru, I tried to explain you the importance of the ring and Ma Kamakhya, but you ignored me and had no faith in anything. You followed your way of greed, cheat and falsehood. I hope, after this incident you realize your mistake. "

Baba further told "Adherence to the truth & having a strong faith in religion and Divine Mother are the only qualifications needed to get success in Tantra Marga or the Path of Sadhana.

On the contrary, if one follows the path of falsehood and irreligion, he will be lost forever in the darkness of ignorance for many lives.”

Years later, Babaji entered the social life on the command of Ma Kamakhya. He established a Kamakhya Temple in Lucknow, India. Anyone who came to him felt a great spiritual bliss and happiness. They would leave happy knowing that all their miseries would come to an end because Babaji is always with them. Babaji left this planet on January 9th 1990 at Kamakhya Dham, Lucknow Ashram, uttering “O Ma, O Ma, O Ma”
